2006 CHS GRANT AWARDS

The CHS Grants Program

The CHS Grants Committee has chosen the CHS grant recipients for 2006.  The committee consisted of Michael Dloogatch, Linda Malawy, Amy Sullivan and Steve Sullivan.  This year we received 18 applications, as usual far exceeding the number of grants that could be awarded based on available funds.  After a difficult decision process, six grants were awarded, in varying amounts, as follows:

Philip A. Cochran, Biology Department, Saint Mary’s University.  “Monitoring Snake Hibernacula in Southeastern Minnesota,” $275.

•  Bradley J. Cosentino, Program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Illinois.  “Dispersal and Population Structure of Pond‑breeding Amphibians in a Fragmented Landscape,” $300.

Ryan McCleary, Department of Zoology, University of Florida.  “Effects of the Accessory Venom Gland on Venom Composition of the Florida Cottonmouth, Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti,” $455.

Julie M. Ray, Department of Biological Sciences, Old Dominion University.  “Effects of Amphibian Decline on the Trophic Ecology of Mollusk-eating Snakes,” $480.

   S. Alexandra Siess, 1009 N. Kensington St., No. 2, Arlington, VA 22205-2337.  “The Spotted Turtles of Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland from the 1970s to Today,” $250.

Zachary R. Stahlschmidt, School of Life Sciences, Arizona State University.  “Assessing the Physiological Implications of Egg-brooding Behavior in Pythons,” $500.
